Here is one of our newest blankets in circulation. It is going to be all red and white...a tribute to the colors of the Calgary Stampede. Our group decided to submit an entry into the Western Showcase Charity Division. We aren't going to be judged, and we won't win any prizes, but we will hopefully get some recognition for our group. All submitted items to this division are being donated to the Rowan House Emergency Shelter for at risk women and their
families. Bowlerkym started things off with a checkerboard pattern...it reminds me of the chuckwagon races!!! I (heffalump23) added the red garter stitch stripe. Now it is off to BC!!! YAHOO!!!!

There is something addicting about this blanket...those working on it are flying through their sections, and those of us who aren't working on it, are addicted to looking at it!!! Winkwink added the third group of stripes...they tie in wonderfully with the rest of the blanket. The colors and ripple pattern to this blanket are so classic. For me, it brings me back to Sunday afternoons at my Grandmother's house. Isn't it funny how handmade items have the ability to bring you back in time?? This amazing blanket will surely have a warming future when it is given to some special little one. Great job everyone!!

Sorry I have been so slow with posting new blankets. With the Olympics and some personal stuff, I haven't gotten on the computer as much lately as I'd like. Our knitters haven't slowed down though...check out the wonderful progress that has been made on Chocolate Cherries! Bowlerkym and Audreyknits have added their sections, and it is headed off to the next knitter. This blanket is very different than our others, but with all of the fun that these ladies have been having putting it together, I expect we'll see more Log cabin style blankets in the future!!

Well, the Olympics kick off in 31 days...and our tribute is all done!! Ilanaaq's final stripe was completed by Mainlyknits. When I first came up with the idea to do this blanket, I never knew how amazing it would turn out!!! The simplicity of the garter stitch stripes really highlights the colors.

Wow, we have yet ANOTHER blanket that is almost done!! Ilanaaq just got his green stripe from Jennipoo. The green stripe represents the head of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic logo. In my last post I said that our crochet blanket had earned another stripe...well, so has Audreyknits!! She also found time to add a stripe to Crazy Quilt! I'm starting to wonder if there are more hours in the day out in BC!!!

Goodnight Moon is a special theme blanket that the WCOBBS has been working on. Each section has a character or scene from the children's book of the same name. Section Three was completed by Heather, and represents the "Bowl full of mush", and Section Four, done by mugginsquilts, shows the room's window, complete with moon, stars, and a curtain. This blanket is going to make some little one very happy!!!

Please meet “Ilanaaq”, our newest blanket. This name was chosen because it is the name of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics logo. the word, "Ilanaaq" is the Inuktitut word for “friend”.

Each stripe of this blanket will feature a color of the logo, gold, red, medium blue, navy blue, green, and white. The first stripe was done by heffalump23. In order to get this one done before the Olympics start, it was decided that each stripe would be completed in garter stitch. That should help to keep things moving along pretty quickly.

I have another beautiful blanket to share with you...The Nightingale! BarrettsMama added Section five to this gorgeous blanket!! This is BarrettsMama's first blanket, and she did an AMAZING job!!!

Here is the whole blanket...

And a close-up of Section Five. According to BarrettsMama, "The bells represent the bells that the emperor had in his palace and gardens; and the references to the nightingale’s song being like the song of bells."

Fresh Knitting

So, why is this post called "Fresh Knitting"? Well, I have two blankets to show off that have new sections completed by two of our newer knitters. It is always nice to have some "Fresh Knitters" join the group. New ideas, colors, patterns, and themes always seem to pop up when new members get involved!!!

First up...Section Three of Butternut. This section was completed by jennipoo in Calgary. Jennipoo is a wonderful knitter who has won several Calgary Stampede knitting awards...we are so happy that she has decided to share her talents with us!

Our other newer knitter is mmmcherry from BC. Mmmcherry has been a member of the WCOBBS for a little while now, but I am quite sure that this was her first blanket. You'll see more work from her, as she next in line for Just Beachy, and she is coordinating the Eternal Flame blanket.

So, without further ado...here is her first blanket...The Nightingale. Mmmcherry added an egg motif to go along with the bird theme. She also added smaller cables on each side of it. Great work!!

Lost in the Clouds

Here is the latest photo of Just Beachy. I (heffalump23) added the fourth section in Cloud White. I truly think this blanket is good luck, as the temperature started to rise when it arrived at my house!!! I'm shipping it off to BC tomorrow, so hopefully that doesn't mean we're in for a chilly weekend in Calgary!!!

I've got some more updates for you! It seems like when one blanket is updated, several more trickle in behind. Today is no exception.

Here is a new blanket that was started by Daddysgirl. The inspiration is the book, "Goodnight Moon", and section one features Two Kittens. Great job Daddysgirl...very creative!!!

Next up is The Nightingale. Section Three was recently finished up by merlperp. We didn't have a photo of lilpanther1975's "nest" section, so here is a photo of both.

And here is a closeup of merlperp's section. She decided to honor The Nightingale's song with some beautiful music notes. Very cool!!!!

Third on the list is Fin. I mentioned a little while back the teamwork that Dangles and Mickey1 were using to get Section Five done...it paid off ladies...it looks awesome!!!

And last but not least, here's Section two of Butternut. HeatherDD added a beautiful red stripe in a Four-Stitch Check Pattern. Great job!!!!

All of the blankets are coming along wonderfully!!! Keep up the GREAT work ladies!!!!

Feeling Beachy??

Audreyknits in BC was when she added section three to Just Beachy!! This blanket is such a wonderful way to finish off a great summer!!! Each of the sections was planned by Mickey1 to represent different parts of the beach. So far we have Seaweed Green, Ocean Blue, and now Sky Blue. I am psyched about this blanket since I am the next knitter!! I will be adding Cloud White to it. Stay tuned to also see Sandy Tan and Driftwood Brown!!!

More Finished Blankets

Happy Thursday Everyone!!! I am please to unveil some of the latest finished blankets.

First up, Flutterby. Mollicreates added section six to this beauty, and the border was finished up recently. Doesn't she look great?

Here's Flutterby after the border was added...

Next up to the finish line is Luongo. Captain Lu had section six added on by wink wink and has been bordered and blocked. Looking good Lu!!!!

Next, Little Bo Peep. The knitting was finished up on this one a little while back, but there was a question as to whether or not she needed a border...the verdict is in. She got her border and is looking beautiful!!!!

Last, but certainly not least, mugginsquilts finished up her Pooh Painting blanket. She's gotten so many oohs and ahhs from the other knitters, I don't know if she'll want to give this one up!!! Amazing work mugginsquilts!!!!!

So, there you have it!! The list of finished blankets is growing by leaps and bounds!!! Our first round of Fall blankets is already moving right along, and I can't wait to show you their progress!!!

The Snuggly Cuddly

I am so excited to share another blanket update with you all!!! Section Two on Snuggly Cuddly was done by one of our new knitters, adventuregurl. We are so lucky to have her working with us...her projects are awesome!!! Great job adventuregurl and welcome aboard!!! This blanket is living up to it's name...someone very special will love snuggling up with this one for sure!!!

Here is the latest blanket update...we have several blankets in rotation right now, and several are getting very close to being done!!! Here is a status report on a few that I don't have current photos for:

Luongo is done!! Winkwink finished up Section 6 and FPWear worked her magic and added a border. I know that there are a lot of Vancouver fans who are anxiously waiting to see Captain Lu finished up...I hope to get a photo of him soon!!!

Just Beachy has a new section. Vivian5 added Section 2, and it has been handed off to the next knitter.

Fin is almost wrapped up. Dangles and Mickey1 teamed up to get Sections 5 and 6 done...great teamwork ladies!!!

Eternal Flame is moving right along. This blanket is a bit different since it is being done in squares and then sewn together. I am hoping to get a photo of the progress shortly.

Finally, mugginsquilts has outdone herself again!!! She has taken on a new blanket, Pooh Painting- 'Bear of Very Little Brain'. The various characters from the Pooh stories are done in intarsia, an advanced knitting technique. This is truly going to be a special blanket...wonderful job mugginsquilts!!!!

More New Blankets to Share

Wow...I cannot even count how many blankets we have on the needles right now...and we have even more being started!!!!

First, there is The Snuggly Cuddly,started by tstones. One member said that it looked like a Creamsicle...personally, it reminds me of Fall back in New England. I cannot wait to see what other colors are chosen for this blanket.

Along with the Snuggly Cuddly, we have Butternut that was started by sydneythefly, and Eternal Flame, a blanket made of squares, that is being coordinated by mmmcherry. Stay posted for photos of these two blankets.

ETA: Here is Butternut!!!! Right after I published my post, the new photo of Butternut came up on Ravelry...so here she is...

We also have some blankets that are getting close to being finished...once new photos are available, I'll post those too.

The weather has been hot in Western Canada, but it isn't slowing our knitters down!!! Here are two more updates...

Harvey the Hound keeps on growing!!! MommyLovesyarn added section five in a beautiful white moss stitch. Only one more lace section to go on this puppy!!!!! Looks great ladies!!!

As promised, mugginsquilts has been on fire!!!! She finished her section of the Pooh and Friends blanket in record time!! Her stripe represents Eeyore, and she chose a wonderful cable pattern that mimics Eeyore's troublesome tail. Great job!!!

We have several blankets that should have updates soon...keep checking back to see how things are going!!!

I am so sorry that I have been MIA lately. My computer was on the blink, so I had no web access. I assure you that our knitters didn't slow down the entire time!!!! Though I like to give each new section its own post, there are too many to catch you all up on...so here they all are...in no particular order!!

Little Bo Peep was finished up by DeeKnits. All that is left is to decide if she needs a border or not. This blanket is going to make some little one very happy...and warm!!!

Next, a new blanket was started by yours truly, heffalump23. It is a Winnie the Pooh themed blanket, called Pooh and Friends, and the colors are inspired by the vintage Pooh stories. My section represents Piglet, and the stitch is called Ham's Tweed. Keep an eye out for this one, as our resident speed knitter, Mugginsquilts is nearly done her Eeyore section!!!

Next, our long locked lady, Rapunzel has been doing some growing! Section Four was done by Audreyknits. Though I am truly enjoying summer, this blanket reminds me of a fall day. It is beautiful!!

Last, but certainly not least, Farley was finished up by FPWear. She not only completed the last section in crochet, but she also added a gorgeous border!! He looks so snuggly!!!

Flutterby- Section Five

Well, our little Flutterby is almost ready to spread it's wings and head off to some special little one!!! Section Five was just completed by torycordick and the stitch pattern chosen was cocoon...how appropriate!!! The knitters on this blanket amaze me...they each chose such a special pattern that fits so wonderfully with the theme. Someone is going to be very happy to received this one!!!!

Harvey section 4

Our speed knitter, Mugginsquilts, is at it again!!!! In just a few short hours, she added on another 6-inch stripe to our friend Harvey the Hound. Take a look at the amazing shield pattern she used!!!! Great job!!!! Mommylovesyarn, Harvey is headed your way!!!

As for the auction results, it was a HUGE success!!!! Once all of the bid payments are received, I'll do a blog post about how we did.

busy bees!

I thought the bees were busy outside, but they've got nothing on our knitters!!! While I was posting like crazy about the auction, some of our knitters were clicking away...

First up...Section Four of Fin! Winkwink did a great job on this blanket that is a tribute to the mascot of the Vancouver Canucks hockey team! Only two more sections and this one will be done for the season!!!

Here's another hockey related blanket...Harvey. Evilknittingtwin completed Section Three in a flickering flames lace pattern. Looking good!!!!!

Finally, here is one of the newest blankets...Just Beachy. Mickey1 started things off with a seaweed green stripe. Makes me want to jet off to the coast to sit by the water!!! Great job!!

Farley and Luongo Updates

Can I just say how impressed I am with our knitters?? Even while we were in the midst of our auction, our knitters kept working away on our blankets.

First up, Farley the Fox. Section Four was completed by Woolewe. Doesn't Farley look great?? The last section of this blanket is going to be super cool, since it is being done in crochet by FPWear!! I can't wait to see it all done!!

Next, our BC ladies have been busy getting Luongo wrapped up. Section Five was completed by Cyndiinbc. Though I (heffalump23) am a die-hard Flames fan, I must say ladies, Captain Lu is looking good!!! Only one more section, and he'll be done!!! Winkwink...he's all yours!!!

Again, I am so proud of all of you for your hard work!!! You all never cease to amaze me!!!!

Flutterby- Sections Three and Four

The Nightingale- Section One

Here's the latest addition to the blanket family...The Nightingale. The idea and first section are from the creative mind of mugginsquilts in Alberta. To quote mugginsquilts, "Introducing ‘The Nightingale’ based on the fable of the same name. I started with navy blue and ‘diamond brocade stitch’ because a Nightingale sings with the clarity of a diamond." Great job!!!!

Farley- Section Four

Wow! I feel like our knitters are on high-speed! Everyday there are new sections to post on here!!! Today's section comes from Daddysgirl in Calgary.
